Aims of the seminar
- To aid elected members in engaging more effectively with the public to ensure community participation in political decision-making.
- To give delegates an understanding of deciding the most appropriate methods to engage with their community.
Who is it for?
This one day workshop is aimed at members and officers who are interested in enhancing their understanding and ability to effectively engage with their communities to improve the quality of decision-making within their local authority.
What does it involve?
The one-day interactive workshop will cover the following aspects:
- An overview of community engagement
- Lessons learned and best practice
- Social Inclusion – engaging hard to reach groups
- Community involvement in area-based initiatives
- Methods for capturing views:
- Consultation
- Surveys and analysis
- Effective use of comments, compliments & complaints
- Capturing views electronically
- Setting up and managing surgeries
- Operating an area forum
- Closing the consultation loop
- Reviewing and evaluating the effectiveness of consultation mechanisms

The fee is £200 per delegate + VAT.
